These parts are appropriate for sale and use on motorcycles used on or off the public highways. (1) Replacement Parts Replacement Parts are aftermarket parts that ARB considers to be functionally equivalent to the stock part they are intended to replace, and therefore would not impact the emissions from these vehicles. The California Air Resources Board (ARB) regulates aftermarket parts and has promulgated regulations that essentially place all emissions related aftermarket parts into three categories: In most cases, the sale and use of emissions related aftermarket parts on motorcycles is prohibited unless it is either a "replacement part" as defined by California, or is a specifically authorized use of that part as reflected in an Executive Order ("EO Part.") I made a video about dyno runs check it out and let me know what you thinkĮmissions Notice to Customers in California California regulates motorcycle aftermarket parts that have the potential to impact emissions. Proper testing of the throttle maps can only be done while riding the bike in real world conditions! This adds time and puts me at the mercy of the weather which can delay my work. On any fly by wire bike for best results the throttle maps must be manipulated. Collecting data while riding the bike allows me to precisely tune all throttle positions and allows me to test the throttle maps and fine tune them for the feel I am looking for. ![]() The main reason for this is the lack of load on the dyno. This is especially true on inertia dyno's that rely on accelerating a drum. ![]() A dyno is very good for larger throttle openings but not for smaller throttle openings or steady speed tuning. ![]() I obviously use a dyno, but for part throttle tuning my main method of data collection is riding the bike on the road. My tuning philosophy is different than most of my competitors in that I do not rely solely on data collected on the dyno.
